What is Close Reading? Close reading is digging deeper into the texts we read. We read the same text 3-5 times. Each time we read, it is with a different purpose. We might focus on main idea one day and vocabulary/word choice the next. Students get a choice in what their reading will be for the week. Here is an example of what a text will look like after we mark it up:
