My fifth grade students will be using the app Shadow Puppet to explain how to do a math problem, for example 224 divided by 12. The student will take photos of the problem, explain how to solve it using Shadow Puppet, and then save their video. I will make a QR code and other students can scan the code and learn how to divide (or perform another skill) by watching that video. This will also serve as an assessment for me to see if the student is able to do the skill.
I can identify cause and effect relationships in a text.
marine, basking, ordeal, treating (a doctor treating a cold), fatal, stunned, intensive, analyzing, juvenile (young), calling (The girl feels it is her calling to take care of animals.)
I can identify the theme (the message or the lesson) the author is trying to teach me.
It is so important that your child know their math facts! It will help them tremendously with their division unit that will be introduced next week and in their higher level math skills.
Do you have a deck of cards? If so, this is all you need to help your child master these facts! The goal? Memorization! Your child understands the process, now we need to speed things up! The following is a link to an excellent multiplication game called "Top That!" (Other games included on this site!) http://www.kiel.k12.wi.us/faculty/jwills/multiplicationcardgames.cfm The fifth graders in my writing group are starting their creative writing projects. They were given several prompts: If I was the principal for a day, If I was invisible, If I was a superhero, etc. Surprise, Surprise, all the fifth graders chose "If I were a superhero" for their essays.
We will be working on conventions (capitalization, punctuation, spelling, etc.) and organization (My ideas are clear, I have a good lead and a conclusion, and everything connects well). I can identify the sequence of events in a text.
5th and 6th grade students in my writing class are writing to Pen Pals this week! These students are also in 5th and 6th grade in New York! We started our rough drafts, and we are working on choosing interesting words to make our letters come alive! Students are working particularly on vivid verbs and adjectives!
Model the five parts of a letter:
I can understand the stages of plot and character development as the plot develops.
